Stanton,
Thanks for reaching out and introducing yourself, I look forward to meeting you in
person someday. It was nice of Jody to recommend me as someone to meet, but for
the record, I moved here from Louisville, Kentucky and not Sedona. That said, Louisville
was hard to leave, but I’m setting into Park City quite nicely.
Regarding your question about the CUP process, your pickleball/basketball court would
need Planning Commission approval, so yes, it would be subject to a public meeting
forum. If you have additional questions, please feel free to reach out at any time.
Best,
Gretchen

Hi Gretchen,
Welcome to Park City. One of my dear friends is good friends with Jody Beeler in
Sedona and Jody had inquired if you and I had met yet. I’m sorry we haven’t. I knew
Bruce Erickson quite well. My name is Stanton Jones and I am the owner of an acre
parcel at 2732 Meadow Creek Drive in the Estate Zoning District where I am trying to
build a sport type court that will be for pickleball and basketball. It has been approved
by my HOA.
I know that residents have put in pools and sport courts without a CPU being required
but for whatever reason, I am being told that my court falls into the “private recreation
facility” classification which requires a CPU. My question for you is will this be an
administrative process or will I also be required to formally go in front of the planning
commission in a public forum?
I hope you are enjoying Park City. It had to be hard to leave Sedona. I appreciate your
input on this.
thanks,
Stanton

Hi Jeremy and Mr. Jones,
Planning performed a review of the pending Building Permit application PLAN21-981
for constructing a pickleball court. A pickleball court is a private recreation facility and
requires a Conditional Use Permit reviewed by the Planning Commission (Land
Management Code Section 15-2.10-2, outlining Conditional Uses in the Estate Zoning
District).
Please submit a Conditional Use Permit application to the Planning Department,
including the required public notice information with property owner mailing addresses
for properties within 300’ of your property. You may either email the documents to
planning@parkcity.org with a Dropbox or Google Docs link (our emails have a limit on
attachments of 8MG) or you may drop off the documents and electronic Public
Noticing Template (via thumb drive) at our front counter during regular business hours.
Please don’t hesitate to contact us if you have questions or need any further
assistance. Thank you,
